Topic: Flange with a webcam?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Has anyone done a flange plugin that uses a webcam for input? I was thinking it would be real cool to mount a cheap webcam pointing straight up with a blue USB LED light next to it and use hand positions to control the flange. I think the effect would be tantalizing. Thoughts?

Very difficult to do it !! And long time to do it !!

!!!

Hmmm.

There is a freeware program that will translate webcam movement into joystick/mouse commands. Perhaps that would help in the development?

I use this to control my view in flight simulator games and it works surprisingly well.

There is also TrackIR, a commercial product, that has their own software and a special webcam that sees IR. It has a very high framerate, plus the IR might make it work a bit better with lights flashing all around in a club. You could use a simple $10 tv remote LED attached to a ring on your hand, for instance and control the flange like that.

Any flanger that uses mouse or joystick as its controller, might be a fairly easy hack into either of these programs. I think I'll tinker with this a bit and see what I can come up with.

or.. ya could just splash out and but the alesis AirFX ;)

Yeah, but the hacking is half the fun. =)
