Topic: Stem engine error
Just bought new Mac Mini M2 Pro and try VirtualDJ. Every time I open VirtualDJ It's show windows with "Stem engine error" every time and cannot use stem. How to solve it?

Did you start with a clean install on the new mac?

found cause of problem. if disable SIP Steam Engine 'll be show error. Why it was happened like that?

[System Integrity Protection (SIP)]

Maybe the Steam engine locks access to the GPU?

Do you mean that when SIP is disabled (crsutil disable), the stem error disappears or the stem error appears?

I restarted my M1 Pro in recovery mode (Shut down fully, and then hold down power button until menu appears)

Clicked on 'Utilities' menu and loaded up 'Terminal'

Type in: csrutil enable

Rebooted, and this fixed my 'Stem Engine Error' issue.

It seems my SIP (System Integrity Protection) was disabled, and this is what was causing the issue in my case.

That's why I asked the question because I would have more thought "csrutil disable" fixed the issue. Interesting.

Sorry for reply late. stem engine error message appear when SIP is disable. and stem emgine work normal when SIP enable.

Check this ya'll. Googled "Newest Version of Virtual DJ". Scrolled down until I found a result from the actual virtual dj website https://www.virtualdj.com/download/ . Downloaded the one for my Mac even though I have the newest version. It totally worked! Went through the install steps like I didn't have virtual DJ. When I clicked on Virtual DJ to open it up..it was like there was nothing wrong. I really hope this helps because I was PISSED!!! If you are like me, I wish nothing but serenity for you and your loved ones.

Just got a Mac mini M2 and transferred everything over from my laptop and go this issue. Enabled SIP didn't help but what did was crating a new profile and that Worked

How did you transfer?

I'm experiencing the same problem. Every time I boot virtual DJ it gives a Stems Engine Error. I've enabled the SIP and I've also uninstalled and re-installed it.

Does anyone have any other advice? Using Macbook Air M3.

After installing Sequoia update, got the same Stems Engine error.. after reading everyone's post, decided to follow DJ Dash Masha instructions/fix.. downloaded & reinstalled VDJ, opened VDJ, didn't have Stems Engine Error, open & closed VDJ a couple to times, no more Stems Engine Error..

Question is why this happened, simple fix vs SIP flaky fix, worked for one and not the other. Thanks to DJ Dash.. Aloha

I have the same MacBook M3 and same issues were you able to fix it?

I'm sure I've tried DJDash's method in the past and it didn't work.

I've revisited this thread today and again tried DJDash's method and to my surprise stems are now working! 😳 Maybe when I've updated macOS Sequoia to the latest 15.3.1 it has a fix built-in, who knows. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

If you've tried this fix before and it didn't work, maybe try again.šŸ¤”

Hey all — same story here. I just switched from an M2 MacBook Air to an M1 MacBook Pro using Migration Assistant. When I first launched VDJ, I got two errors:
1. Reinstall VDJ
2. Stems Engine Error

I reinstalled VDJ (without uninstalling and by uninstalling it too), and now I’m only seeing the Stems Engine error. I also fresh installed and deleted the application support folder.

These are the errors from the log

[21:03:43] Stems engine GPU failed. m1 error Unable to load model: file:///Applications/VirtualDJ.app/Contents/Resources/model1.mlmodelc/. Compile the model with Xcode or `MLModel.compileModel(at:)`.
[21:03:43] Fallback to no stems separation (GPU not available)

Last time I changed devices and experienced this same issue, the only thing that fixed it was creating a new user profile on the same machine and manually transferring over my database — I’d really like to avoid doing that again if possible.

Update: I restored the application support folder - error still existed. I then decided it was time to create a new administrator profile on my macbook and begin the process of moving things over. I created the new profile, restarted the computer and logged into the new profile. Opened VirtualDJ - no error. Logged back into my original profile, was just going to give permission to transfer my files, but instead I opened up virtualdj just to see, and somehow the error is gone. Stems work. No errors found in log. Let me know if anyone else can replicate.

Edit 2: Upon restart, now stems don't work in both profiles. ::facepalm::
