OK, I know that you need to move V3 plugins to different folders in V4, BUT, does that mean that if you download plugins and try to install them on V4 that they will install in the wrong directories?

No, they won't install at all :( if you don't have 3.4 because they will extract to old directory. But new plugins for V4 works ok.
