Topic: illegal vs legal music ?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

So I was looking into ways I can expand my music library, and from what I know, some DJs prefer to pay for individual songs on Beatport, some have a monthly subscription in a DJ Pool site..

For me the only benefit of a DJ Pool is that it's way more cheaper price per song (if you download a lot ofc)..

However, I was wondering how is the song legally downloaded from beatport different to just a free download from elsewhere ?
When they inspect you as a DJ during a session, do you have to prove somehow where the music came from ?
Do you get an invoice or something, when you pay for songs on beatport / on DJ Pools ?

When you purchase songs from beatport/amazon/itunes there is a record of your purchase that is either sent to via email or provided to you at the time or purchase. Pertaining to DJ record pools check out the following links for some details on the subject...
