It is verry hard to advice or say the one above is OK!
Out there are so many combinations, that will make it impossible to do this in a propper manner!

From pure specs, it should do the job.
But i never had this model in my hands!

I'm always looking for NVIDIA videocards and so it looks good for VJing.
A must is to have min. 512MB DEDICATED videoram! Shared memory is always a pain!

It is always the best way to test it and if will not work like needed, go for the next one :-P

jammin j,

The specs listed look good.
Stay with the i7 processor, keep all the RAM you can afford, 8GB is great, 6GB is fine and 4GB is as low as I would go.

I use a Dell Studio17 series that is very similar to the specs you have listed and it works great for video.

Save yourself the laptop headache and build yourself a rackmount pc.
You're not talking mp3's here. Videos take up alot of drive space, trust me, I add over 300 a month.
Do you really want to show up to a gig with ten external drives and active usb ports and all that plugin nightmare? And as for teh whole mac vs pc thing, you'll find it's usually the clowns that gig once every two months that present this argument.
