I've just seen a demo of the new Pioneer DJM-2000 mixer on YouTube.
One of the effects which uses the multi-touch screen is basically a 7 band crossfader.
It splits the signal into 7 frequencies and allows each freq to be faded across from one
channel to the other, either gradually or instantly.
Now I'm pretty sure there is no other hardware that can do this, but it should be possible
for a plugin, right?

You can already do EQ fading within VDJ, and multi-band EQs are possible using plugins, yes.
